You can find them by searching here. Although the radio supports PTT keying, you have to take care to wire it correctly. After a quick search, I found this better image of the pinout:. Going off this, you can see that the 3. You can also see that the grounds are on the 2. This should also work for all 2-pin cable compatible radios from other manufacturers, as long as they use the same pin out. The rest of this article will give you a working setup, but will key PTT for the bottom display only.

The top display is keyed using the tip of the 3. See this page on miklor. This left me with 4 conductors, of which I only needed three. I wired the RTS, DTR, and digital ground to a DB-9 female connector, with a little bit of electrical tape to keep the cable shield from causing any problems. Then wire the connections to and from PC audio in the usual manner.

On the Easy Digi the polarity is not marked, but if you follow the wiring diagrams included, you will see the two negatives are in the center, and the positives are on the outside. I marked them myself with a silver marker to help during assembly.

For this I used two 3. Next I took a 3. UV series owners onlythis is where you want to connect the tip instead of the shield if you want top display PTT instead of bottom display PTT. Next, I took an Arduino jumper and cut it in half.

Put one pin in mic ground, one pin in PTT ground, and twist the free ends together. Tin the twisted end, and solder and snip the excess pin leads. You could use any suitable wire for this jumper. It should end up as shown here:. The radio side of this cable needs to go down to 2.I am fairly new to linux and all, byt i have a good understanding. Have you figured anything out yet?? Don't let Linux throw you, the applications perform the functions regardless of operating system. Do i need a cat control cable also??

Sorry, i am new to HAM and very new to the whole digital side of things. Its a learning curve and I am taking it on head first. No I havea not had a chance to chase this down.

My shack build is taking up alot of time. I will do some work with it this week. I will try that first. And yes I do use two cables the CAT cable has to be a null modem cable. It does work on my and the Draws.

More to come sorry for the delay. No joy. So I went to rigctl direct. Since Xastir works fine via the minidin cable is there a way to have WSJT to work the same way via that cable?

The answer seems to be in the groups. I see that another ham has simular trouble with an ft and he got an anwser of trying fldigi and flrig first then select flrig in wsjt-x and that might help I will try this this weekend and see. I wish it was easier to find this kind of info. I just don't know how to use group. I was trying all weekend to get this working. I finally decided I should just do a factory reset on my ft since I had been doing so many things. I did and after that I couldn't get the CAT to work anymore.Setting up Winlink and Direwolf for our local node.

What you will need to get started 1.

A 2 meter fm radio which can be interfaced to a computer. An interface to the radio. Direwolf which is a software TNC for packet radio. I am using version 1. Winlink express the software that sends and recieves the email.

direwolf ptt control

Has an editor to compose the email as well. There are three things we need to add. I believe that is the default but make sure. I highly reccomend you do this as many usb devices will be named usb 1 usb 2 etc. I rename mine to match the name of my radio.

Do the same with the recording device under the recording tab. For earlier windows this same thing can be done but the programs are accessed a bit differently.

Back to direwolf. You may have more than one but you need to determine which one is your interface port for the radio. For the icom usb radios see the CAT section below.

direwolf ptt control

That should finish up Direwolf setup. Be sure to save your file and try running direwolf. Ggreen lines are good and red lines are bad so if nothing is red you should be fine.

Enter your grid square and if you registered winlink express put in your registration key then click update. Next back at he main screen at the top where it says open session make sure the drop down box is set to Packet Winlink.

Once you have the email addressed and typed click on post to outbox. Now in the folder list you will see outbox has one message.

In my copy of direwolf the port was desfaulted to We are now ready to send that email.

APRS I-Gate And DIGI on Raspberry Pi Using Direwolf And A FE-PI Z Audio Card

Make sure connection type is set to direct and type into the box to the right AB0DK The problem is programs like direwolf and sound modem do not use cat commands instead the just use a simple com port to asset PTT. Icom doesnt provide this but someone was nice enough to writr a program to do this.QRZ Forums.

Hi gang I'm fairly new to the digital modes. I bought a used D sometime back and it came with the PC programming cable and a Signalink with the correct interface cable to the radio. Sooo, I hooked up the signalink to my pro. The data cable between the radio and signalink was the same as for the Yaesu using the 6 pin mini din on the Icom.

The internal jumper signalink settings are the same also I believe. I set the radio in digital mode and could never get the rig control or the hamlib setting to work. I installed Flrig and now fldigi controls the pro - sorta.

baofeng aprs ptt controller

After several minutes of operation in one place not requiring any changes to the radio - just transmitting and receivingfldigi loses control of the radio: no frequency changes, no filter control, etc. I have to go back to flrig and initialize the settings again and the radio starts being controlled again?? Another oddity is that unless the Icom is in digital mode, the PTT commands do not work. I'm not sure what is commanding the radio to transmit: the CI-V cable or the signalink?

I meet people all the time that list their pro as their digital mode rig. So far I haven't found the proper way apparently to set it up. Please help - this seems it should be much easier. Last edited: May 2, K4HYJMay 2, You should be careful about your radios ability to lock down in transmit when unattended. I hope your D finals did not get cooked. Good Luck. I think I saw this with my D and using another program with Flrig.

Might try RigCat if they have a file for the and see what happens. Might also check to see if your PC is not powering down the USB ports when there is no activity for a while. Thanks for the advice on the USB port falling asleep. Sure enough the power saving feature was enabled on the port.

Disabled it and after having QSO's for 20 minutes with no commands to the radio I changed frequencies and bam it worked!! Than again K4HYJMay 3, Glad to be of assistance.

Suppression by omission examples

I've been setting up a new laptop this week, so I've revisited all these things the last few days. All I have left are the sound card manager and getting all my programming software and cables working. May just leave the Chinese radio stuff on the old XP box since it works fine.

If anyone is looking for a cheap laptop for the shack, Best Buy had a Dell entry-level package with the Looks like it should run about 4 hours on batteries and runs very cool. The D is in the shop not because of PTT issues, etc, but because it was too close to a welding project that got a little carried away.

The finals are fine, but the display is covered with slag.Note: If the English language is difficult for you, I recommend that you install the Google Chrome browser. He can translate complete web pages into many languages. I am a big friend of the small Raspberry Pi which and use this gladly for amateur radio.

With version 4 he is fast enough to fulfill all tasks. There are many ways and many software to make the Raspi fit for Ham Radio. Following is the installation how I use it. My choice of programs has the advantage that they are compatible with each other.

It is not necessary to install all programs. Just choose what you like and install what you need. But: I recommend that you read through the complete page first so that you develop an overall understanding. The installation will take some time. Take it easy and do it step by step. You will be rewarded with a very efficient, stable, high frequency safe i recommend ferrite cores over the connecting cables and a Alu case computer for amateur radio applications which is also particularly suitable for portable use.

The instructions are based on the assumption that you have basic knowledge in the use of electronics and computers and that you are a licensed amateur radio operator or short wave listener. Acknowledgement: I find it impressive how much time people spend making great, free, open-source licensed programs available, writing application reports and recording videos.

For me this is real ham-spirit.

A huge thank to everyone. A real enrichment for our hobby. In these instructions you will find code windows again and again. You can copy it by hand and enter it in the LXTerminal or better you connect to a second computer via VNC or via ssh, then you can copy and paste the commands directly from my homepage. It is important that you enter one line at a time and press return each time. Please also copy and paste in the same way.

Note upper and lower case.My first experiments connecting my handheld radio to my computer relied on VOX control for transmit, which has a bunch of shortcomings. This week I got around to adding some real transmit control and putting it in a little box. I noted last time that PTT is triggered by connecting the two grounds together. This is why I needed a transformer in one of the connections—my soundcard has the mic and speaker grounds connected.

At first I tried using a solid state relay to connect the two grounds.

Toyota highlander apple carplay upgrade

I measured and found a high-impedance 3. With this information I was able to use a smaller and cheaper transistor switch and save the fancy relay for something else. The trouble is that before I started up my soundmodem the serial port at rest was putting 5V on that line, which meant my radio was transmitting.

In the end I solved this twice. I also put in a second transistor to invert the logic in hardware. The one remaining problem is RF feedback—if I have it on high power mode, sometimes enough power gets into the cables that it keeps transmitting forever, sometimes even if I turn off the switch. This implies that the wires closest to the radio are the ones that need better shielding. All comments are held for moderation; basic HTML formatting accepted.

Sometimes writes to a pseudo terminal would block causing the received frame processing thread to hang.

The first thing you will notice is that received frames are not being printed. After a while this message will appear:. Received frame queue is out of control. Reader thread is probably frozen. This can be caused by using a pseudo terminal direwolf -p where another application is not reading the frames from the other side.
